It's awful in every respect - yet, I dunno, I still love it, partly because it's broken unfinished quirks are hilarious at times. In the same way I enjoy Tommy Wiseau's masterpiece of a movie The Room. I even played through the DLC, yes, this game somehow got a DLC release.Ĭall it Stockholm syndrome, but in a weird way, I actually like the game. I've completed it at least twice, I don't know why, and played the levels a few times more. The sheer unfinished nature of some of the features, especially the bracelet gems that could literally allow you to out of bounds any area. The horrific glitches with physics that often caused you to fall out of bounds, through floors, or fly off into enemies. The constant, never ending loading screens at the start, end, and often even in the middle of cutscenes. I'd just come off the back of a Sonic Adventure 1, 2 and Heroes marathon, and felt like I wanted more. When I picked up an Xbox 360 way back in 2007, the only Sonic game that was available for the console at the time was the much hated, much panned, universally considered terrible Sonic The Hedgehog, or "Sonic '06" as it is known, to avoid confusion with the actually good 1991 cartridge release. I've never quite managed to get to Japan to try Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car, but anyway. The original on the Sega Master System was the first video game I ever played, and I've completed every Sonic game released every since, no matter how obscure. Before you do, though, you might want to have a look at the following gameplay trailer. As anyone who knows me will tell you without hesitation, Sonic The Hedgehog is probably the biggest most influential video game series in my life. Those of you who would like to try out the public demo, can always go ahead and download it right here. However, SEGA is well-known for supporting mods and remakes, which is why this particular project should be relatively safe. Just in case you’re not too familiar with this title, Sonic 06 is a platform game that allows players to use the Sonic, Shadow, and Silver characters in order to complete various stages.Ĭonsidering the fact that this is based on a commercial title, some of you might be worried about a potential takedown by the original creators of the game. Powered by the Unity Engine, the game certainly looks decent, to say the least, and judging from the demo video that we’ve seen, the team did a good job with the animations, textures, and effects.

For quite some time now, a team of Sonic fans named Gistix has been hard at work on their own PC remake of Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, and it looks like their long hours have yielded something very promising and interesting, as the game in question has just received its first public demo.
